Scrapbook Challenges' Gallery Gems DT Pick & Featured Photo (7/29/11)

I've been experiencing pain in my right wrist this week probably due to my addiction to blogging my scrapbook layouts or just plain surfing the net for scrapbook challenges to enter.  Thus, I made a decision to finish all the layouts I could manage to create for the month a few days before the end of the July . . . and take the remaining days off from the internet or the computer.  This includes finishing my commenting DT tasks for the week too.

But I just couldn't resist blogging about the Scrapbook Challenges site end of the week featured photo choices and DT picks.  hehehe  Shamelessly . . . I'd say it's because my "Phonebanker" LO was chosen.  It's another high point for the week for me aside from viewing my launching guest designer cards just this monday.

Been a little disappointed the middle of this week since none of the challenges I've entered on this week so far have resulted in a win for my layouts and cards.  I was hoping for (2) or (3) wins for the handful of challenges entered into.  {sigh}  There's still until July 31st announcement of winners . . . but not getting my hopes too high on that.   hmmmm

Anyway, back to Scrapbook Challenges . . . Here are some screenshots of my "Phonebanker" LO being chosen as (1) of the (8) featured photos & another screenshot for being DT Milagros' Pick for the Week's Gallery Gems:

"Wat Pra Keo" LO

It was a much needed vacation we took more than 5 years ago.  Upon choosing the photos I'd scrap, I realized how thin I was way back then.  I was at my ideal weight at that time.  How time flies . . . .{sigh}  Anyway, I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Thailand for a vacay, again.  But probably to another tourist spot there and not to duplicate my travel.

For this "Wat Pra Keo" LO or Thailand's Grand Palace LO, I made use of Scrapbook Challenges Sketch.  I improvised or modified it with my embellies & with a large photo on the side instead of a blank space.  Take a look and let me know how it looks (please click the photo for a larger image):

Guest Designer at The Crazy Challenge: July 25-31 (my 1st as a Cardmaker)

It was pleasant news and a surprise when I received an e-mail from Kelly of The Crazy Challenge asking me to be their Guest Designer for the week. . . . albeit make a card for them.  This is my 1st GD Spot, as a cardmaker.  Though, I'm more of a scrapper than a cardmaker, I obliged for it's a new adventure for me.  And I can't be more happier! =)

The Crazy Challenge for the week (CCH77) is Ribbons (July 25-31, 2011) sponsored by Sassy Studios Designs.  I've created (2) cards with Sassy Studios images for this Guest Designer Spot:

My 1st Card:  WEDDING RIBBON CARD
Inspiration Sketch for Wedding Ribbon Card

SUPPLIES:  Cardstock: Star Paper Corp, Pattern Paper: Daisy D's, Digi Image: Sassy Studios Designs' "Bella Bride", Flowers: Prima, Thread: DMC, Gel Pen: All About Scrapbooking, Pencils: Colleen, Other: Ribbons, Sketch: Peachy Keen Stamps, TOOLS: Paper Shapers: Provo Craft.

DESIGN NOTES:  I chose the dainty print of Daisy D's for background paper set against my gray cardstock.  I neatly adhered the wide pink ribbon on the lower portion across and did a zig-zag stitch by hand around the pp for texture.

It took time for me to conceptualize the design for the image and the flower.  The image which is Sassy's "Bella Bride" are in 3 layers: 1st layer in lavender printed together with the oval was cut into shape with the image taken not as a whole, the 2nd layer in cream cardstock was in whole fussy cut for the skin color, and the 3rd layer in white cardstock fussy cut for the dress only.  I then colored with pencils the hair, lips, roses on the gown & the bouquet.  The base layer was 1st adhered to a gray oval which was scalloped-cut with scissors, outlined in black pen with hand-stitching applied in dark green thread for more texture.  The scalloped oval where dotted with pink pastel gel pen for some sparkle.  After which I adhered the 2 layers of fussy cut whole image, one-by-one with glue dots for dimension.

The flowers were 3 individual flowers neatly layered on top of each other with a green satin ribbon fashioned accordingly at the back.

My 2nd Card: CHRISTMAS RIBBON CARD

"Phonebanker" LO (3rd DT Work) for Kaboodle Doodles Challenge #77: Stitching Faux or Real

I'm proud to say I made use of a new technique . . . REAL STITCHING!  I usually just do faux . . .

It's the last week for the month of July 2011 and so . . . my 3rd DT Work is here with Kaboodle Doodles Challenge #77 - faux or real stitching. Winner to be drawn randomly with sponsor prize of 2 digi images from The Crafty Pad on Tues, Aug. 2, 2011 at US timezone.  Participants have until Sun., July 31, 2011 to link their entries at the Kaboodle Doodles Challenge Blog.

SOUS Inspiration Sketch by Nanne Harry

SUPPLIES: Paper: K&Company, Alphabet: American Craft, Tape Measure: Cosmo Cricket, Clock Chipboard: Dusty Attic, Flowers: All About Scrapbooking, Glittering Stones: UBL, Digi Ticket Images: The Crafty Pad, Thread: DMC, Journaling Pen: Parker, Ink Pad: Horse, Sketch: Nanne Harry of Stuck On Us Sketches, Other: Lace.

DESIGN NOTES:  I started with finding a position for my clock chipboard after applying ink on the outside.  Before adhering the clock, I double stitched around the marked edges where the clock is to be placed.  It took time for me to decide what color of threads to use and whether to apply single or double stitching.  I guess I was afraid that the colors won't jive.  Placing the photo underneath the clock, I glued them on my paper together with the tape measure which was measured exactly to the right length that's not awkward to look at from afar.  I then chose the right colors for the flowers and clustered them on the lower right hand side of the clock plus the 2 Crafty Pad tickets as accents.  Then, I finished of with a white lace on the bottom and journaling on the top right hand side of the tape measure.

There you have it!  Doesn't it look gorgeous?  It's my 1st attempt to use rich-colored paper for an LO.

"Friend" LO

I'm joining Artastic's July Challenge with inspiration from Archibald Motley's "Octoroon Girl" painting.  How I wish I could post the wonderful inspirational painting here as well.  It's so dramatic and at the same time very lovely.

My LO entry is entitled, "FRIEND".  I dedicate a page for my friend who has lost her husband recently months after getting married.  We're praying and wishing her well away from her depressive state.  Her life has suddenly become more dramatic but she still manages to carry herself well and still looks lovely for everyone.

Thus, I deemed fit to create an LO of both of us on her last visit here in my country to attend to matters related to her husband's passing.  It's my choice of colored photo with me and her, shades of maroon and red (plus neutral white).  Since, we're a tropical country, we don't wear gloves and hats though we can't live without our handbag for the ladies (included in the photo . . . a bit blurred though as the vertical photo was taken against the light).

My Layout: "FRIEND"

SUPPLIES: Paper: Crate Paper, Die Cut Embellishments: Crate Paper, Stickers: Crate Paper, Journaling Pen: Parker, TOOLS: Decorative Scissors: Paper Shapers.

DESIGN NOTES:  All materials used are from Crate Papers' Pink Plum Collection.  I just added plain white paper as base.  To start, I cut an outside frame from the Crate Paper Collection which I adhered as border on top of the white cardstock.  I matted my 2 photos on a peach or close to orange paper which was scalloped cut and re-matted against brown paper.  Stickers, photo corners and the Title were added around the photos.  The flowers as finishing touches were popped up on (2) opposite corners for dimension.  And an excerpt from an apt Beatles song were added on the existing journaling to convey the sentiments at the time.

"You're A Delight" LO

I was inspired by the 2 challenges (1 from Colorful Creations & 1 from Sketches in Thyme) that I decided and told myself that I found the right sketch and the right ingredients to create an LO for a summer photo taken on my parents' 35th wedding anniversary.  I'm also entering this LO for Practical Scrappers Challenge Me Tuesday Bingo Challenge with
(flowers, die cuts & pattern papers = 1st column down)

Colorful Creations July Blog Challenge calls for stripes, flowers and the prompt "Summertine, and the living is easy!" on a layout.  While, Sketches in Thyme Thursdays sketch take #51 was an inspiration & provided the sketch.  Here's my take on the 3 challenges:

TITLE: You're A Delight

SUPPLIES:  Papers: Cosmo Cricket “Garden Variety” Line, Crate Paper “Pink Plum” Collection, Die Cut Embellishments and title: Crate Paper, Journaling Pen: Parker, Sub-title Label: Dymo, Sketch: Elizaveta of Sketches in Thyme, TOOLS: Decorative Scissors: Paper Shapers.

"Blow" LO Highlighted as Inspiration at Colorful Creations Blog

I have to admit Colorful Creations has been an inspiration for me being the site where I started this scrapbooking hobby.  Thus,  I'm continuously grateful for their non-wavering support to members (newbie and oldie in this craft).  Just like their post at the Colorful Creations Blog of Choice Inspirations from the Gallery dtd. July 21, 2011.  Do drop by their Blog to view varied scrapbooking inspirations . . . this might get your mojo up and running to scrap those photos earmarked for scrapping.

Hi, everyone!  It's time again for Kaboodle Doodles (KDCB) Weekly Challenge with Embossing as Challenge #76.

Now, to my submitted work. . . This is my 2nd week and my 2nd DT Work with them.  I found it hard to incorporate the challenge requirement since I still don't have a machine or bug with embossing folders.  Luckily,  I checked my stash and found a cardstock with embossing from Making Memories.  This one, I utilized on (1) of my LOs for the DT submission.  I also procured an embosser from a Japan Store and made use of this on another LO which I'm sharing for this challenge.  Here are the (2) LOs:
